Public buses in Honiara are now limited to just two passengers per seat-row whilst taxis can only carry a maximum of three passengers, in new measures announced by the Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare this afternoon.
Following the announcement of the second positive COVID-19 case yesterday, the cabinet had met today and agreed to new measures.
Sogavare said buses and taxis are advised to limit their numbers. He said taxis can carry a maxim of three passengers and buses two passengers per seat in a row.
Sogavare also encourages citizens to practice social distancing, wear masks and not to shake hands.
The PM further reiterates that the Quarantine centres and isolation facilities are strictly out of bounds. “People who have nothing to do in Honiara should remain at home or return to the provinces. Our citizens in the provinces are encouraged to remain in the provinces unless there is an urgent need to travel to Honiara,” he said.
For schools in Honiara, Sogavare said early childhood classes are advised to close for two weeks whilst other classes will continue as usual.
