Shortland village ends 48 hours quarantine this morning
Komaliae Village in the Shortlands, Western Province is the first community outside of Honiara to go into lockdown after it completed a-48-hour lockdown this morning.
Acting Commissioner of Police Mostyn Mangau said the village had to undergo the lockdown after a Bougainvillean had travelled across the border to see his family and interacted with the villagers for seven days.
Three Shortlanders from Komaliae who helped to transport the PNG national were arrested and now quarantined in Gizo.
Mangau said the three would be charged for illegal crossing at the border using a banana boat after the end of their 14 days quarantine.
RSIPF officers enforced the 48 hours lockdown and no arrests were made.
Mangau said health officials also used the opportunity to take blood swaps of the villagers for COVID-19 testing.
