Weather office warns: Solomon Islands on Heavy Rain Alert

107

A heavy rain alert is enforced for the entire Solomon Islands.

The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service (SIMS) issued the weather advisory in its heavy rain alert number one bulletin at 09:30 am this morning (Monday 9th, March 2020.)

It says a heavy rain alert is enforced for all provinces due to a trough lies over the Solomon Islands.

“Associated cloud and heavy rain with thunderstorms are expected to affect all provinces and islands within the next 24 to 48 hours,” the weather office says.

SIMS says such localised heavy rain may lead to possible landslide and flash flooding over communities living near hill slopes, close to large rivers, streams and low lying areas.

The weather office warns sea travelers to consider safety actions as such heavy rain can reduce visibility.

“People are therefore strongly advised to take safety measures to avoid danger and loss of lives.”
